Mauricio Pochettino opens up on Mykhailo Mudryk making ‘massive effort’

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino opens up on Mykhailo Mudryk making ‘massive efforts’ to turn things around for the Blues. The Ukraine winger signed for Chelsea this year in January signing on an eight-and-a-half-year contract for an initial transfer fee of €70 million, potentially rising to €100 million in add-ons.

The 22-year-old has been used mainly as a substitute player this season as manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to work with the winger in the training ground. Mudryk is yet to find the back of the net for the Blues and has zero goals and assists for Chelsea this season.

Mykhailo Mudryk, who joined Chelsea earlier this year leaving Shakhtar Donetsk after seven seasons, made his debut for the Blues back in January itself making 15 appearances last season. The 22-year-old made his debut as a substitute player.

Mudryk in this season has made five appearances in the Premier League and has failed to score his first goal and to make his first assist this season. He has yet to net the ball for Chelsea and is said to be working hard in the training sessions to turn things around for Chelsea.

But Pochettino says supporters needn’t worry about Mudryk’s long-term future, as he’s ‘improving’ every day. Pochettino said, ”Trust me Mudryk is making a massive effort to try to integrate himself,’ said Pochettino. He’s trying to understand better what it means to play like a team but he is young. For sure he is going to improve. We are so happy with how he is improving.’’

Mudryk is a talented player and features in his national side as a winger. He has made 13 international appearances since his debut in 2022 and is yet to score his first international goal. Mudryk started his senior professional career with Shakhtar Donetsk back in 2016. Though he made his professional debut after two years followed by loans to Arsenal Kyiv and Desna Chernihiv.

He made a total of 44 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk scoring 12 goals for the side. He made his successful move to the English side for a transfer worth an initial €70 million, making him the most expensive Ukrainian player ever. Mudryk has been facing some tough times for Chelsea as he is yet to score for the side but it’s expected from the talented youngster that he will come back stronger giving the best to the side.
