Luis Diaz reunites with his father
The kidnappers released Luis Diaz's mother within a few days.
Luis Diaz has been reunited with his father after being kept hostage for more than 12 days. The player’s parents were first abducted and held for ransom in his home Colombia.
Luis Diaz, 26, returned to Colombia after representing his country. He had a heartwarming reunion with his abducted parents. His father, Luis Manuel, was taken by the National Liberation Army (ELN) and freed on November 9th.
The Liberation Army handed him up to a United Nations and Catholic Church-led humanitarian commission, where many family members gathered.
Diaz” father stated, “It was a lot of horseback riding, a lot of mountains, a lot of rain, too many insects. I couldn’t sleep peacefully. It was difficult. Almost 12 days without sleep.“
When word initially leaked that Luis Diaz’s parents had been kidnapped, the football world was stunned by the player’s plight. Liverpool FC immediately expressed its support for the player, issuing a statement on the matter.

Can Luis Diaz lead Colombia to the World Cup?
Luis Diaz and Colombia missed their first World Cup since the 2010 edition after failing to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The top six teams in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers advance straight to the World Cup, while the seventh-place team advances to the next round of inter-federation qualifiers.
Colombia is presently in fifth place with six points from four games, having not lost a game but drawing three and winning one. This puts them on the verge of falling to eighth place.The game is set for November 16th at Colombia’s Estadio Metropolitano.
