“After two years they’ve done it” – Barcelona secures a spot in the UCL Round of 16

FC Barcelona qualified for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 on Tuesday.

After three hard seasons, FC Barcelona has qualified for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. The Blaugrana defeated Porto in a tough match on Tuesday, assuring their passage out of the group round. Xavi Hernandez’s club found themselves in a predicament in which all three teams (Barcelona, Porto, and Shakhtar Donetsk) had 9 points apiece. The La Liga winners clinched the deal with a 2-1 victory against last year’s quarter-finalists.

Barcelona trailed after 30 minutes as Pepê fired his shot past Iaki Pea. Barcà, on the other hand, answered immediately through Joao Cancelo, who dribbled past his marker before curving his shot past Diogo Costa. After the goal, Barcelona took control, as Joao Felix set up International colleague Joo Felix for a goal.

Barcelona won the game 2-1, securing mathematical qualifying for the group stages. The club blew an earlier chance to do so against Shakhtar Donetsk, where simply avoiding loss would have sufficed. For the first time since Lionel Messi’s departure in 2021, the club qualified for the group stages. Barcelona plays Royal Antwerp in their last group stage encounter, and they are currently leading Group H.
