Transfer Bombshell: Manchester United Enters Fierce Battle for Barcelona’s Midfield Target

The Ultimate Transfer Showdown: Manchester United's Audacious Move to Secure Barcelona's Midfield target

According to reports, Manchester United is willing to compete with Barcelona to acquire Belgian midfielder Arthur Vermeeren. Vermeeren, who is just 18 years old, presently plays for Royal Antwerp and has a promising future ahead of him.

Nacional (via Football365) says that Manchester United and Barcelona might compete for the teenage midfielder’s signature this summer. The Catalan giants have had their eye on him for some time now as a potential long-term successor for Sergio Busquets. They also anticipate that he will be far less expensive than Ruben Neves and Joshua Kimmich, two of their top midfield targets.

In contrast, Manchester United didn’t start challenging for a title until quite recently. It has been claimed that manager Erik ten Hag is a fan of the midfielder and has requested the club’s board to approve the transfer.

Despite having three years left on his contract with Royal Antwerp after this season, Vermeeren is not likely to cost more than €10 million. The central midfielder has started 32 games for the club’s first team in all competitions, contributing once with an assist and twice with a goal.

He has also played for Belgium’s under-19 team and is expected to move up to the senior squad soon. Sergio Busquets, a legend in the midfield for Barcelona, will be leaving the club this summer. He has been a part of the Barça youth programme since 2005. The Spanish player made a video on Twitter earlier this month in which he revealed his intention to depart Camp Nou.

Busquets played in 721 games with Barcelona’s first squad and contributed to 45 goals and 18 goals. He led the team to nine La Liga championships and three Champions League victories.
