Reece James Transfer News: Barcelona is competing with Real Madrid to capture Chelsea fullback, Reece James

Reece James Transfer News: According to reports, Barcelona is competing with Real Madrid to capture Chelsea fullback, Reece James. The Catalan club is looking to strengthen its roster, and they believe the Englishman would be an excellent addition.

According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero on Twitch (via BarcaUniversal), Barcelona is keeping an eye on James and is prepared to make a move if the opportunity presents itself.

Romero said: “Keep an eye on Reece James. There are people in Barcelona who get instant emotions.”

The Blaugrana are excited by the prospect of acquiring the right-back from Chelsea, who apparently need to offload players owing to financial stability plan (FFP) concerns.

Real Madrid has also been keeping tabs on the right back, so the Camp Nou side isn’t alone in their pursuit. The Spanish teams willing to negotiate with Chelsea put the price tag on the defender at €70 million.

Reece James has recently signed a new contract with Chelsea, making it difficult for Barcelona and Real Madrid to pry him away. Early in the current campaign, the Englishman signed a six-year deal that would keep him at the club until the year 2028.

The defender joined the team when he was six years old and has only spent time out on loan once. After making his debut in 2019 after being given the nod by Frank Lampard, he has established himself as the first choice at right back and right wingback.

With Mason Mount’s future at Chelsea in question, the defender has been mentioned as a possible future captain. Even if it means paying a large fine, CHELSEA faithful have encouraged the club to hold on to Levi Colwill, Reece James, and record acquisition Enzo Fernandez.

Since last summer, when new owner Todd Boehly came over, the Blues have reportedly spent around £600,000,000 on new players.
