Saudi Arabian club, Al Ettifaq had initially approached the player ever since he had become a free agent. The former Lyon striker will be a part of the Saudi pro league from next season onwards.
Another Saudi club pulls of an eye-catching signing from Europe:-
With Moussa Dembele edging closer to a move to Al Ettifaq, Saudi Arabia’s pull over this transfer window is clearly evident. Dembele’s contract as per Fabrizio Romano’s official revelation, shall be valid until the year 2027. The medical has been booked and shall take place in Europe. Prior to this the Saudi club, Al Ettifaq had also signed Premier League star, Jordan Henderson. Al Ettifaq’s manager, Steven Gerrard will be keen to add more impactful names to the team’s squad so as to strengthen their chances to display quality performances in the upcoming season.
27 year old, Dembele began his professional career with Fulham in the 2013/14 season. He has spent a major period of his career at Lyon wherein he stayed for a period of 5 years from 2018-2023. He played 172 games for the club scoring 70 goals. He was loaned out to Atletico Madrid midway between the 2022/23 season wherein he played 7 games without scoring in any of them.
Al Ettifaq managed just a 7th place finish in the Saudi pro league in the 2022/23 season having managed just 37 points in 30 games with only 10 wins. The side will be desperate to see their players perform well so that their position in the league and other competitions get enhanced. The onus will be on their newly signed players including Dembele. It remains to be seen as to whether the Frenchman is able to fit into his new team and value to the club as a whole.
