Marco Silva, the current Fulham manager, is a leading contender to replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The Sun reports that Silva is looking more and more like Tottenham’s first pick for the position. Many people believe that Conte will quit Tottenham when his contract ends after the current campaign.

The Italian’s contract has a one-year extension clause, but it appears unlikely that he would make use of it. Even though he bounced back with a 3-1 victory against Nottingham Forest last week, Conte’s season seemed finished when the team was eliminated from the Champions League by AC Milan.

It has been reported that Silva is one of many summer transfer targets for Tottenham. Silva has turned Fulham into a Premier League powerhouse on a shoestring budget, earning the praise of Tottenham owner Daniel Levy.

As Spurs aren’t the most lavish club in the league, Silva seems to be trying to win over Levy by pointing out the results he’s achieved while spending very little.

As his unsuccessful tenure at Everton ended in December 2019, Silva found himself without a managerial position. The Everton manager fired the Portuguese coach despite his 40% win percentage and he sat out for 18 months until Fulham came knocking in 2021.

Because Silva has been so impressive for Fulham, it seems that the dynamics at Everton was the source of his problems. Fulham’s ascent to the Premier League was widely considered a foregone conclusion, despite how easily they had risen from the Championship.

But, Silva has shown that he has what it takes to be a good Premier League manager, and Fulham have been outstanding this season. After this season, the 45-year-old was destined to draw attention, and it seems as if Tottenham is getting ready to make a play for him.

If Silva is reported as “a close buddy” of Jose Mourinho, this would make Silva the third Portuguese coach in Spurs’ history, after Jose Mourinho and Nuno.

Should Silva end up at Tottenham, he may have higher expectations, but we assume Spurs are considering a few other possibilities as well.
