Liverpool’s hopes of acquiring Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount in the next summer transfer window have been bolstered.

TalkSPORT reports that Liverpool is optimistic that a transfer for Mount can be completed. At Chelsea, the 24-year-old has less than 18 months left on his deal.

There has been no progress in contract negotiations, and if Chelsea can’t reach an agreement quickly, Mount may be traded. Mount has reportedly become Jurgen Klopp’s top target as he seeks to strengthen Liverpool’s midfield.

According to the article, Mount’s close associates think he’ll soon be playing at Anfield. It’s still early in the transfer market, but the Reds seem to be hopeful that Mount will join them on Merseyside this summer.

It’s easy to see why Liverpool would want to get Mount. Mount is a tireless worker who has the confidence of his coaches and has the potential to inject fresh life into the Liverpool midfield.

Mount has been a valuable member of Chelsea’s team for a long time, as he has played in 192 games for the Blues and contributed to 33 goals and 37 assists in the Premier League. Mount has been an essential player for his club and nation in recent years, earning 36 appearances for England.

That would be quite a coup for the Reds if they could steal one of Chelsea’s homegrown players, but they need more. Liverpool need another midfielder or two even if Mount signs with the club, with rumors including Jude Bellingham and Matheus Nunes.

Liverpool also needs to invest on a new central defender this summer to complement their new England star. According to the Daily Mail, Mount wants to increase his current pay of £80,000 per week to roughly £240,000 per week. This would be quite costly for Liverpool. Nonetheless, Klopp needs a lot of reinforcements, so this must serve as a starting point for Liverpool’s rebuilding effort this summer.
