In the summer, Arsenal considered acquiring Federico Dimarco, but it seems that Manchester City will be able to get his services. Go back to the summer before last, and you’ll remember that Arsenal desperately needed a new left-back.
Due to his history of injuries, Kieran Tierney is a bit of a risk to start, while Nuno Tavares had a rough second half of the season. Arsenal needed a new left-back badly, and they got Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.
Although the Ukrainian has quickly become a fan favourite at Arsenal, he wasn’t the club’s sole summer transfer priority. According to a May rumour from Tuttomercatoweb, Arsenal was reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan star Federico Dimarco.
Arsenal, rather than spend the estimated £21 million for Dimarco, opted to wait for Zinchenko. Dimarco, though, has kept up his impressive play in Italy and may still be transferred to the Premier League.
According to 90Min, Dimarco has pleased Manchester City scouts this year. Joao Cancelo was permitted to go for Bayern Munich in January, leaving City with few choices at left back.
Now that Arsenal has recruited ace Zinchenko in place of the Italian, Dimarco might become a primary priority. Di Marco, 25, has played in all 29 games for Inter this season, contributing four goals and four assists.
Dimarco came up via the Inter junior system but also played for Sion, Parma, and Hellas Verona before settling back in Milan. Dimarco’s star is on the rise, and with his recent Italy national team call-up, City may try to sign him this summer. That’s a 180 given Arsenal’s interest, but the Gunners seem content with Zinchenko and aren’t likely to start second-guessing themselves if they choose Dimarco instead.
