More than a year after the couple announced their breakup, fresh details concerning Gerard Pique’s divorce from Shakira have emerged. The couple dated for over 12 years before their eventual breakup in June 2022.
The Former World Cup winner with Spain recently came on the Catalan radio station ‘Rac1’ where he clarified certain facts with regards to his breakup with world-renowned singer, Shakira.
Pique was highly scrutinized by media sources and social media users after it was revealed that their divorce was caused by his romance with Clara Chia Marti, a 24-year-old woman. Shakira then notoriously created a ‘diss track’ directed at her ex-partner with the aid of Argentine producer Bizarrap. The pressure from media sources was exacerbated by Shakira’s song, which aimed multiple barbs at Pique.

The former power couple originally met while working on the song ‘Waka Waka’ for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Pique appeared in a tiny role in Shakira’s song video. Pique described how it all happened, adding that their relationship began in South Africa. He messaged her, saying that they needed to go to the World Cup final in order to meet again since she was due to perform.
The pair announced their love in 2011. They were expecting their first child, Milan, in 2013, a little over a year later. They first exhibited no desire for marriage. Shakira released “Me Enamoré,” which translates to “I love you” in English, in 2017.
