FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 – France vs Morocco – Match Report

France registered a one sided victory over Morocco in the Round Of 16 match of the FIFA women’s World Cup 2023 at the Hindmarsh stadium. The French side was undoubtedly better of the two sides on the pitch. The side had 75% of the hall possession throughout the game and attempted a total of 15 shots during the match in comparison to Morocco’s 1.

The Herve Renard coached side clearly created more chances and capitalism on majority of them to maintain their rhythm on several phases throughout the 90 minutes of the match. Morocco on the other hand didn’t stand a chance against a well prepared French team.

The game began with each of the two sides seeking their chances to attack the opponent net on regular intervals. It was France who struck first with just 15 minutes on the clock. Karchaoui lifted a delightful cross from the byline in for Diani who is totally unmarked as she nods in the ball from close range to give France the lead. It didn’t take France to double their lead as they scored again just 5 minutes later.

Diani initially peeled out to the right and isn’t picked out. Dali who was left out for the pull back after the Moroccan defenders were drawn towards Le Sommer’s run, smashed a first time shot to find the goal. France added a third goal in the 23rd minute as Morocco had there back on the walls instantly thereon. El chad who had the ball covered initially instead of shielding it, attempted a pass which deflected off Diani’s shin and fell kindly for Le Sommer, who scored into the bottom far corner.

The early minutes of the second half saw some bit of resurgance from Morocco as they made some seriously good attempts to score. The side created a fairly good chance right from the kick off as Nakkach slided the hall into the path of Tagnaour who squared it to Lahmari on the edge of the box, as she attempted a curling shot from there only to see her effort fly narrowly wide of the target.

Despite there being a handful of good efforts by Morocco it was France who had the last laugh as they wrapped up the game with a fourth goal of the match in the 70th minute. Becho got the better of the defender marking her and lifted a cross in the box. Le Sommer who was at the perfect place headed the ball home from close range to ensure a win for France.
