Chelsea want to sign the €35m Ajax man in the summer transfer window

Before the beginning of the season, Edson Alvarez was rumoured to be joining Chelsea. But, that plan ultimately fell through. 90min reports that Chelsea is ready to reignite its interest in the 25-year-old at the season’s finish.

The Blues must strengthen and bolster their central midfield. And Alvarez has the makings of a great purchase. The Mexican national team player has shown his worth in recent years with Ajax and his country. And he’s prepared for a major club like Chelsea.

Notwithstanding what has been said, the Blues may have to let N’Golo Kante go as a free agent at the conclusion of the season. They’ll have to find a suitable replacement for him. Edson Alvarez’s versatility makes him a valuable asset for Graham Potter next season since he can play either central defence or defensive midfield.

It’s possible that Ajax would be open to the notion of allowing the player to depart at the conclusion of the season despite their initial reluctance to sell him before the season began. It will be interesting to see whether Chelsea and Ajax can settle on a price in the coming months.

The possibility of joining Chelsea before the next season is likely appealing to Alvarez since he was interested in a transfer to the Premier League last summer as well. The 25-year-old playmaker is approaching his prime years, during which he will benefit much from experience and guidance.

If he can swiftly adjust to English football and reach his potential, he might emerge as a top Premier League midfielder in the future seasons. The tough-tackling midfielder will give the team greater defensive stability, allowing the creative players more room to flourish. He’d be a huge boon for the Blues, and he and Enzo Fernandez would make a formidable duo.

But, it’s quite doubtful that Chelsea would participate in the Champions League next season. To what extent their inability to provide European football hinders their ability to recruit a quality player like Alvarez remains to be seen.
