Barcelona’s Secret Transfer Plan: Surprise Move for Former Chelsea Midfield Maestro!
Could Barcelona's Bold Pursuit of the Experienced Ex-Chelsea Midfielder Ignite a New Era at Camp Nou?
Former Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu is allegedly attracting attention from Barcelona ahead of the next season. Since joining Girona from Southampton for around €5.5 million last summer, 31-year-old Romeu has been a regular starter. He has contributed to his team’s efforts to finish in the top half of La Liga this season.
Romeu has started all 31 of his La Liga games this season and has scored twice. Barcelona has reportedly shown interest in acquiring Romeu during the next summer transfer window, according reports from Jijantes FC. The former Chelsea midfielder has been suggested as a possible replacement for Sergio Busquets.
Romeu has a contract with Estadi Montilivi until June 2025. So if the Catalan club were to sign him, they would be making a smart move. He’s well-seasoned and is likely to cost less than their other options in the middle of the pitch.

The Spanish midfielder spent seven years in the Barcelona youth system before making his first team debut in May 2011. He is a right-footed defensive midfielder with tackles and stamina to spare. He left his childhood club the following summer to sign with Chelsea for about €4.6 million; he played in 33 games for Chelsea in all competitions during his four-year stay.
The Blaugrana are keeping tabs on a number of other midfielders besides Romeu. They have been connected to players like Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad, Ruben Neves of Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich.
When it comes to signing Athletico Paranaense youngster Vitor Roque this summer, Mundo Deportivo reports that Chelsea is in the lead over Barcelona. They want him to join the team so he can help with future plans.
Meanwhile, the Blaugrana are in the middle of a financial crisis, which has slowed their chase of Roque. Therefore, it is believed that they lack the €35 million necessary to sign the attacker.
Roque, 18, has become Brazil’s newest teen star after a string of impressive performances in the South American U20 Championship in Colombia. He played in eight games and contributed to six goals and one assist.
