Aston Villa wants to sign 2 Real Madrid players in the summer

According to French journalist Santi Aouna, Aston Villa is interested in acquiring Marco Asensio and Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid when their current contracts expire in June.

Since Unai Emery came over as manager in November, Villa’s play has improved. Under the guidance of the Spaniard, they have won 14 games, drawn 4 games, and lost just 2 games in their last 13 matches (both coming in March).

After 37 games in the Premier League, the Birmingham team is in seventh place, with 58 points. They may secure a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League with a victory in their last match against Brighton & Hove Albion. If the Seahawks lose both of their final games, they have a shot at finishing sixth.

Villa is ready to support Emery in the next summer transfer window as they attempt to qualify for Europe. The Athletic has been connected to two high-profile transfers: Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao and Giovani Lo Celso from Villarreal.

It has come to light that Emery is also keen on signing Asensio and Ceballos from Real Madrid. The Premier League team reportedly made the latter a formal offer, which they have accepted.

The current season marks the conclusion of Ceballos and Asensio’s contract with Los Blancos. According to Fichajes and El Nacional, the two have turned down contract extensions from the club because they feel the offer is inadequate.

The scenario is ideal for Villa, who wants to bring the Spanish pair to Birmingham to capitalise on it. According to Aouna, Asensio would rather sign an extension with Real Madrid, although Ceballos’ intentions are less apparent.

In 2017, Real Madrid paid Real Betis €16.5 million to acquire the services of Dani Ceballos. The midfielder has appeared in 116 games for Los Blancos, all competitions combined, contributing to six goals and eleven assists. He has eight titles to his name, including two UEFA Champions League and one La Liga championship.

The Spanish giants have had trouble establishing Ceballos as a regular starter, as 24 of his 42 outings this season have come off the bench. Ceballos may find it appealing to play for Unai Emery again after working with him briefly during his loan stint at Arsenal. The 26-year-old was a member of the Gunners for two seasons (2019–2021), during which time he appeared in 17 games.

Meanwhile, in January 2015, 27-year-old Marco Asensio moved from RCD Mallorca to Real Madrid for €3.9 million. The winger has subsequently appeared in 283 games for Madrid in all competitions, contributing to 61 goals and 32 assists. Asensio has won a total of 17 trophies throughout his time with the club, including three UEFA Champions League and three La Liga championships.
