Arsenal Transfer news: There are a number of European teams said to be interested in signing highly regarded Montpellier striker Elye Wahi, including Arsenal and Newcastle United.

The 20-year-old gained widespread attention when he scored all four goals in his team’s 5-4 defeat to Lyon in Ligue 1 on May 7. After 30 games in the league this year, he has 17 goals and 5 assists.

Wahi’s efforts have not been overlooked. Foot Mercato (via Get France Football News) reports that Arsenal, Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, and RB Leipzig are all considering making a move to sign him.

With Wissam Ben Yedder’s (32), captain’s contract expiring in June 2024, AS Monaco reportedly has their sights set on the 20-year-old. If Montpellier can keep their top striker for the next season is still up in the air.

Wahi is reportedly valued at €40 million, and his contract will end in the summer of 2026, as stated in the aforementioned article. As of right now, Arsenal’s No. 9 possibilities are Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, and Eddie Nketiah.

Folarin Balogun, 21, will return to the Emirates after scoring 18 league goals in 33 outings for Stade Reims this season. Therefore, Wahi would understand that his prospects of playing for Arsenal’s first team right away are low.

Arsenal’s last-ditch UEFA Champions League aspirations were dashed after a 2-0 Premier League defeat to Newcastle United in May 2022.

They ended up placing fifth, just two points behind Tottenham Hotspur, their biggest opponent. When Arsenal faced Newcastle in the league on Sunday (May 7), they were thinking about more than simply the championship battle.
