Argentina registred a convincing win over Bolivia in their second match of the world cup qualification round. The Lionel Scaloni coached side delivered some high quality performances to outperform a seemingly frail Bolivian side in their own backyard. The albicelestes were undoubtedly the better of the two teams on the pitch as they had 60% of the ball possession and attempted 15 shots throughout the game. Following this win Argentina are now placed second in the table just below Brazil with 6 points in 2 games with a goal difference of +4.
The game began with each of the two sides seeking their opportunities to gain some momentum early on in the match. Argentina clearly looked to be the more comfortable side on the pitch as they dominated with the ball in their possession. Argentina came close to opening the scoring in the 12th minute when Enzo Fernandez’s shot from 35 yards out was narrowly saved by Viscarra who tipped it over the crossbar.
The team however did managed to take the lead eventually in the 31st minute following some wonderful collective play by the Argentinians. Di Maria’s low cross to the front post was found by Enzo Fernandez who thumped it home from close range with ease. Argentina doubled their lead in the 42nd minute following a set piece delivery. Di Maria’s free kick was swung in precisely as it found Tagliafico who headed it beyond Viscarra into the top corner.
The second half began and with it continued Argentina’s dominance. The game however didn’t see any major moments as none of the two sides came close to scoring early on in the second half. Argentina kept creating the chances and came close to a third in the 70th minute when Julian Alvarez’s shot brushed off the woodwork following a succession of beautiful one two passing between him and Di Maria.
Argentina did eventually manage to score their third and final goal of the match in the 83rd minute. Palacios kept the ball alive initially after Di Maria’s cross field pass had been cut out. The midfielder’s pass found González who made a fine run in the box and smashed the ball past Viscarra confidently. FT:- Argentina 3-0 Bolivia.
