Castilla star midfielder Sergio Arribas is all set to begin his La Liga career with Almeria. The Spanish club closed the deal with a €6m fee and 50% sell-on clause to Real and the right of first refusal also for Real Madrid to control the player’s future.
The young talent has impressed many with his performance as Almeria coach Vicente Moreno sees the midfielder as a readymade starter. Many other teams like Sevilla and Real Mallorca were also interested in the young talent. The 21-year-old midfielder signed a five-year contract with the La Liga club. Arribas has been seen as the jewel in the crown of the Real Madrid academy when he arrived back in 2012. Almeria will be starting their La Liga campaign on August 11 against Rayo Vallecano.
Sergio Arribas to begin his La Liga career with Almeria:
Arribas was rated highly at Real Madrid but the presence of Carlo Ancelotti on the side questions the place of the 21-year-old in the senior team. It is said that almost every La Liga team, except for Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, expressed interest in Arribas. Arribas fulfills his wish to play in the Spanish league as was the wish of Real Madrid too.
Arribas was quite clear about his demands, he wanted to have his future resolved this week and it has been fulfilled by Real Madrid. In the end, Almeria and Mallorca were the teams competing for the player because Sevilla left due to the limitations. The U19 Spanish international finally signed for Almeria for a €6m fee.
The Madrid-born midfielder started his football career by joining Real Madrid’s La Fábrica back in 2012. He made his way into the Real Madrid Castilla side. He made 93 appearances and also scored 41 goals which is quite impressive.
The young talent made his first team and La Liga debut on 20 September 2020, coming on as a late substitute for Vinícius Júnior in a 0–0 away draw against Real Sociedad. The Madrid born 21-year-old has made 14 appearances for the Real Madrid senior team and scored one goal which came on 8 February 2023, in a 4–1 win against Al Ahly in the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup.
He is yet to make his international debut for Spain but the 21-year-old is a promising talent and could be a future star for his team. He will be featuring in Almeria in the upcoming seasons as they hope for the best out of the player.
