Cengiz Ünder makes move to Turkish club following Marseille exit
Lyon player, Cengiz Ünder has signed for a Turkish club via this season’s transfer window. The negotiations with respect to the player’s transfer were taking place over the past few days. The Turkish player after a two year stay at the Ligue 1 club has now made a move to Fenerbahçe. The player’s move to his new club in Turkey is a done deal as per the confirmations of several sources. The winger’s destination to Fenerbahçe seems almost set hereon.
Cengiz Ünder to join Fenerbahçe next season
Fabrizio Romano via his official revelation let everyone know that Cengiz Ünder’s transfer to Fenerbahçe is nearly complete. The player is supposedly going to join the Turkish club from next season onwards in all probabilities. Despite there being interests from Zenit, the Turkish international chose Fenerbahçe as his upcoming destination.
The agreement regarding the player’s move has been reached with Olympique Marseille for a permanent move. The deal is going to be completed soon as well. Ünder is prepared for his medicals which shall take place soon as the player follows Brazilian player, Fred on the way to Fenerbahçe.
Ünder who was born in 1997 began his senior professional career at Atinordu in the 2014/15 season aged 18. He made 58 appearances for the club for the next two years scoring 11 goals before making a move to İstanbul Başakşehir in 2016/17 season. Aftr just one year at the club (43 appearances), he joined Italian club, AS Roma.
He stayed at the club for three years during which he played 88 games and scored 17 goals. He thereon made a loaned move to Leicester City in 2020/21 and joined Marseille on loan again the following year. His move to Marseille became a permanent one as he stayed at the club in 2022/23 season too. He played 93 games for the French club in two years.
Fenerbahçe have been in fairly good rhythm lately. The club finished second in the league last season just below Galatasaray. With 80 points to their name in 36 matches including 25 wins, the team had achieved a second spot in the table which makes them eligible to participate in the Europa Conference league qualifiers next season.
The team’s major motto will be to perform better in the league next season and win the title which has been escaping their grip over the past several seasons. The onus will be on the club’s new signings including Cengiz Ünder to help the side achieve it’s objectives hereon.
