Al Nassr vs Zamalek – Match Report
Al Nassr registered a high voltage 1-1 draw in the final group stage match against Zamalek in the Arab Cup champions. The Saudi side managed a crucial point thanks to their late resurgence which helped them earn an important draw.
The game was an important one for both the sides in order to qualify for the playoffs. While Zamalek needed to win in order to progress, Al Nassr had to avoid defeat to achieve the same. Al Nassr finished second in their group with 5 points to their name including 2 draws and a win in 3 games. Zamalek on the other hand finished third with 3 points to their name in as many games.
The game began with both the sides seeking their chances to attack the opponent’s net. Zamalek thought they had the lead in the 7th minute when Seifddine Jaziri found the net after a solo run to score a superb goal. VAR however ruled the goal out for being offside.
Al Nassr too had their goal chopped off by VAR just a couple minutes ago after Ghareeb was caught offside on his way to score a spectacular goal. Al Nassr came close again at the half an hour mark when Talisca’s attempted shot on goal was deflected narrowly wide of the target.
The second half began with fresh vigour for both the sides. It was Zamalek who made it count as they took the lead in the 53rd minute via a penalty. Ahmed Syed Zizo stepped up and brilliantly converted his spot kick to give his side the lead. With the passage of every minute the game seemed to become tougher for Al Nassr as they were barely being able to make an impact in Zamalek’s half of play.
Just when it seemed that it would be the end of the road for the Saudi side in the competition, Cristiano Ronaldo incredibly game to his side’s rescue. Konan’s ball from the left hand side was brilliantly headed into the back of the net past Sobhi as Al Nassr had a lifeline. Cristiano Ronaldo’s header this helped his side earn an important point which is enough to carry the side into the knockouts hereon. FT:- Al Nassr 1-1 Zamalek.
