With prominent clubs like Liverpool showing interest in the talented Colombian forward Kevin Mantilla, Newcastle United has entered the bidding process to buy him.
Caracol, a Colombian news agency, reports that several teams are competing for Mantilla’s services. Besides Newcastle, rumours have it that Liverpool, Rangers, Porto, Torino, Vasco da Gama, PAOK, and AEK Athens are also interested in signing Mantilla.
A connection with Liverpool has proven to be the most reliable thus far. Earlier this year, in February, TMW reported that Liverpool had offered €4 million (£3.5 million) for Mantilla.
Despite the lack of new information, Newcastle remains a serious threat to Liverpool in the Premier League. It’s possible that the Independiente Santa Fe star may be transferred this summer since his future looks bright.
Teams are vying for Mantilla’s signature, but it’s unclear where he’ll end up. Immediately after the 2021 takeover, all eyes were on the Magpies and who they may be able to entice to Tyneside.
Even though a lot of money has been spent on players like Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman, Alexander Isak, and Anthony Gordon, Newcastle has not followed that strategy.
The Magpies are taking a much more patient approach, and they are also putting a lot of effort into their youth development. In the summer, the Newcastle roster expanded with the additions of players including Jude Smith, Alex Murphy, Jordan Hackett, Amadou Diallo, and Charlie McArthur.
This summer will bring more, and Mantilla is a good example of this kind. The 19-year-old Mantilla is a promising prospect for Independiente Santa Fe’s future despite having featured in only 28 regular season games.
Mantilla’s tremendous Premier League interest at this early juncture in his career is an indication of his enormous potential, and it’s not surprising that he’s garnered such high aspirations. Competition for Mantilla is high, but Newcastle may be ready to spend millions to keep him on board for the long term.
