UCL 2022/23: After Bayern Munich was eliminated from the UCL, Leroy Sane was seen sobbing in a conversation with Pep Guardiola

UCL 2022/23: After Tuesday’s match against Bayern Munich, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola shared a touching moment with his former player Leroy Sane, which brought back fond memories for many viewers.

After a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their quarterfinal match against the Bavarians at the Allianz Arena, the Sky Blues advanced to the semifinals with a 4-1 aggregate victory.

After the game ended, Guardiola was seen comforting Sane, who had just left City to play for Bayern. Sane signed with Bayern in 2020. One person even pleaded with Sane to “come home” after viewing this. Another fan wanted to know if there was any chance they might see the German international “play under Pep just one more time.”

The last several days have been difficult for him. After last week’s 3-0 loss at the Etihad, a furious fight broke out in the locker room, and Sane was struck in the face by teammate Sadio Mane.

Last night, he squandered a golden chance for the Bavarians when he shot wide when he had a one-on-one with City goalkeeper Ederson. Guardiola showed a lot of sympathy for his former student. Under his guidance at City, Sane played 135 times, scored 39 goals, and won seven trophies, including two Premier League trophies.

Bayern Munich hasn’t advanced beyond the quarterfinals of the Champions League since 2020 when they won the title. Manchester City’s run in the quarterfinals ended in 2022, after previous eliminations in 2021 and 2022. The Bavarians gave up and lost 3-0 at the Etihad, and while playing better in the rematch, they were still only able to draw 1-1 at home.

Thomas Tuchel is having trouble getting the most out of them, as they blew a draw because of squandered opportunities and poor defence from Dayot Upamecano.

It seemed like the German may lead the team to tremendous success as they started the season with a 4-2 victory against Borussia Dortmund. Since then, though, things have been going poorly for Bayern, who have also been eliminated from the DFB Pokal. It was a disappointing finish to the 2022–23 season, even though they won the Bundesliga.
