Two clubs in Brazil have shown interest in acquiring Arthur Melo before the summer break

Since joining Liverpool on loan from Juventus, Arthur Melo has had a terrible time on Merseyside. Yet two clubs in Brazil have shown interest in acquiring him before the summer break.

Calciomercato claims Gremio and Palmeiras are negotiating contracts with Juventus to acquire Arthur whenever he returns to the club. It’s quite doubtful that the midfielder would extend his time at Anfield beyond the duration of his loan. But, his future in Turin is equally dubious.

After paying Juventus £4 million on a loan deal, Arthur has made just one appearance for Liverpool under Jürgen Klopp. The Reds have the option to purchase the 22-cap Brazil player from the Bianconeri for £32m as part of their agreement with the club. Yet, he is not likely to be kept by the locals on Merseyside.

After making his debut in September against Napoli, Klopp is still waiting for Arthur to recover from a thigh muscle rupture. According to the Daily Mail, the midfielder went back to training on February 9. Also, he has been practising extra, and he may play this week.

On Wednesday for the FA Cup, Liverpool will play host to Wolverhampton, while on Sunday for the Premier League, Liverpool will host Manchester United. After some time apart, Arthur feels he is now prepared to rejoin Klopp’s group for either match. He’d want to convince the German that he should be brought to Anfield permanently.

Regardless of Liverpool’s decision after his loan, Arthur expects to leave Juventus in a permanent deal. Now, the rest of the season is his chance to prove to Klopp that he is worth keeping on the Reds. The midfielder logged a full match last week for their under-21 squad as well.

But, as reported by Calciomercato, both Gremio and Palmeiras are now focused on bringing Arthur back to Brazil. His struggles at Anfield are well-known in Serie A, where he has played only 13 minutes. Yet, they believe he might contribute to their squads.

According to Felippe Facincani, Palmeiras also considered acquiring Arthur back in January. As Danilo moved to Nottingham Forest for £18 million, the Verdao saw the midfielder as a potential successor for Danilo. Even yet, Fabrizio Romano said there was “zero possibility” he would quit Anfield.

In June 2020, Arthur made the move to Juventus from Barcelona for a reported £66m (up to £9m with add-ons). Bianconeri also included £55m plus £4.5m in add-ons for Miralem Pjanic when sending him to Camp Nou. However, the Brazilian’s two seasons in Turin were not very successful.

But those problems have followed him to Merseyside, where compatriot Fabinho told Sky Sports in September: “He’s a fantastic player and I’m looking forward for him to be fully fit.“We know it’s not easy going from one country to another. But the football is the same and with his qualities and attitude, he can overcome any of these small problems. I really believe he can bring some quality to the team and he will do well.”
