Tottenham apparently considered making a bid to sign Etienne Capoue in the January window

Etienne Capoue once suggested Watford star Ismaila Sarr could be one of the finest players in the Premier League, so it’s no surprise that Tottenham apparently considered making a bid to sign him in the January window when he was still in the Championship.

Sarr, at age 24, has maintained his great form for Watford this year, contributing to 11 goals and 5 assists in 24 appearances. While playing for Senegal in Qatar, he also made quite an impression. The attacker, though, is now in the last 18 months of his deal.

According to The Athletic’s reporting, Tottenham has added Sarr to their January transfer want list as they try to bolster their assault. Spurs, though, did not make an offer or initiate communication with Watford or the player. Fabio Paratici clearly has a soft spot for him.

Former Spurs midfielder Capoue spoke highly of Sarr when they were teammates at Watford in 2020. After playing with the African superstar, he said that the player had the potential to become one of the Premier League’s greatest.

Instead, Spurs made a deal with Villarreal to get Arnaut Danjuma on loan with an option to purchase for around £27 million. Several teams in the Premier League have shown interest in Sarr during his time at Watford. That includes the day of the deadline.

On the day of the transfer deadline, The Athletic claimed that Everton made a bid to sign Sarr. Sarr has entered into a £32 million agreement with conditions. Unfortunately, it never came to fruition, so Sarr is back at Vicarage Road for another year.

A player like Sarr would have been a great addition for Spurs to use as Son Heung-min’s backup. But he can also play up top and on the right side of the field, as he has done for Watford at various points this season. In all likelihood, he will be on the move this summer.
