The rumours of a summer transfer to Chelsea have made Joao Cancelo “a bit unhappy” with his situation at Bayern Munich.
Cancelo was unexpectedly permitted to join Bayern on loan in January, and he has been playing well enough for the club to warrant a move away from Manchester City.
After a poor World Cup, Cancelo was released by Pep Guardiola because he had failed to regain his form. Cancelo is currently on loan at Bayern, but the club has the option to make the transfer permanent in exchange for a fee of around €70 million (£62 million).
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg claims, though, that Cancelo is already showing signs of frustration. Cancelo allegedly isn’t making a big deal out of his dissatisfaction with his current status on Bayern’s roster.
Cancelo has appeared in four total Bundesliga games, two as a starter and two more as a substitute. Bayern wants to play with wing-backs and doesn’t believe Cancelo is a good fit for that style, therefore the 28-year-old will start the game on the bench tonight against Paris Saint-Germain.
Because Chelsea has been said to be interested in signing Cancelo, this news may pique their attention. Chelsea is reportedly keeping an eye on Cancelo’s position to make a deal in the summer, as reported by 90Min in February.
Throughout the years, Chelsea has spent a lot of money on fullbacks like Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell. Chelsea has the financial resources to acquire Cancelo, a right-back who might compete with Reece James.
Cancelo may provide competition at right back and left back, but it’s unclear whether he’d be satisfied with that role. Cancelo is obviously dissatisfied with his situation at Bayern, and he will likely look for a more prominent role with his next club. As Cancelo’s future is uncertain moving into the summer, Chelsea will have to decide whether they can provide that for him.
