Southampton is determined to recruit Kamaldeen Sulemana at whatever cost

For the January transfer of Kamaldeen Sulemana from Rennes to Nathan Jones’ Southampton, the Premier League club has increased their previous offer of £13.5 million to £17.5 million.

As reported by Foot Mercato on OneFootball, the rivalry in the Premier League for the gifted winger is heating up, with Everton also keen on signing him.

According to a report by L’Equipe, however, Southampton is determined to recruit Kamaldeen Sulemana at whatever cost and has made a fresh offer of £17.5 million to try to entice Rennes into selling their prized possession.

The Ghanaian international, formerly described as an “outstanding talent” by Erik ten Hag, is said to have been offered £13.1 million plus £1.7 million in incentives from the Saints (via Modern Ghana).

But Southampton’s fresh bid to sign Sulemana doesn’t contain any extras either. It remains to be seen whether Rennes will be satisfied with the offer since they are demanding a large amount for one of the best players now doing their trade in European football.

There are a number of promising players the Saints might use on the left flank, including Samuel Edozie, Miroslav Orsic, Moussa Djenepo, and Mohammed Elyounoussi, but none of them are as young as their 20-year-old target.

So it’s easy to see why Southampton made a fresh bid in January to secure Kamaldeen Sulemana’s services. It has seemed that the team is at greater risk of being relegated since Nathan Jones’s arrival.

The importance of having a goal scorer is often stressed, but the absence of a creator may be just as detrimental to a team in the basement. If Southampton’s latest bid for Kamaldeen Sulemana is approved, they’ll be acquiring a guy who can set up goals for joy.
