Santiago Bernabeu Stadium to host NFL games in 2025 after a $1.5 billion renovation

NFL is coming to Spain! Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid’s legendary stadiums set to host international series in 2025.

Since its construction in 1947, the Santiago Bernabeu has served as the Los Blancos’ home stadium. The freshly refurbished Bernabeu stadium is a sight in and of itself, and it may host events other than football matches. According to rumors, the NFL is considering holding a regular season game on Real Madrid’s home grounds.

From 2022 to 2023, the stadium was refurbished for a whopping €355 million, and it can now accommodate football, tennis, and basketball tournaments, as well as concerts. The proposal to host NFL games is part of the league’s plan to develop abroad and offer competition exposure. Florentino Perez and ‘Legends’ will try to reach an agreement with the NFL soon.

The NFL is now scheduled to play three games in the United Kingdom and two in Frankfurt. Tottenham Hotspur had already confirmed their collaboration with the NFL. The Premier League team claims to have the “first purpose-built NFL stadium outside of the United States.” According to insiders, an NFL game in Madrid is “all but locked in for 2024”. The NFL is also considering Atletico Madrid‘s home stadium, Metropolitano Stadium.

The Los Blancos qualified from the group stages with style. Carlo Ancelotti‘s team won Group C with a perfect record. Real Madrid have won six games in a row for the third time in club history, clinching the outstanding record. The 14-time winners maintained their unblemished record in the group stages after a nail-biting match against Union Berlin.

The group stages of the Champions League have concluded, with Real Madrid, Manchester City, FC Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain all securing qualification. A first-place result assures that Real Madrid avoids ‘big clubs’ like Bayern Munich and Manchester City early on. However, the club might meet any of the following teams: PSG, Inter Milan, Lazio, RB Leipzig, Porto FC.

The RO16 draw is set for December 18th at noon CET. Madrid will seek an unprecedented 15th Champions League championship, with Carlo Ancelotti naming Manchester City as the only team who may conceivably stand in their way. Madrid were eliminated in the semi-finals by eventual champions Manchester City, whom they lost 5-1 on aggregate.
