Newcastle United Transfer News: Manuel Ugarte of Sporting CP has caught the attention of Newcastle United
Newcastle United Transfer News: Newcastle United are reportedly looking to acquire Manuel Ugarte for the next season, as reported by Jornal de Noticias via SportWitness. This season, the 22-year-old has been phenomenal for Sporting CP. The Magpies are reportedly in the lead but there is strong interest from other Premier League teams.
Before the 2021–22 season, Ugarte signed with Sporting CP. Over the past few seasons, he has steadily improved. Recently, a number of teams have shown interest in signing him. The 22-year-old has played in 43 games so far this season for the Portuguese club.
He has played more than 3200 minutes as Sporting’s starting midfielder. Apparently, Newcastle sent scouts to their quarterfinal match against Juventus in the Europa League to check him out. His quick pace of work also won them over.
The Uruguayan national team player is under contract with the club until the summer of 2026. Given the high demand for his services, he may be switching teams this summer. His contract has a €60 million release clause, which might be his asking price in the forthcoming summer transfer window.
His current club in Portugal will want to increase his release clause to €80 million if he signs a contract extension. The player’s agent, though, is adamant about not signing a new contract until the player is traded to a bigger team in the summer.
