Reports indicate that Manchester United have been keeping a close eye on AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham, who has also drawn attention from Aston Villa and Everton.
The Athletic reports that Erik Ten Hag plans to spend big this summer on a new striker for United and that the Red Devils have been making regular excursions to Italy to scout the former Chelsea player Tammy Abraham.
According to the source, Chelsea has an option and first refusal to acquire Abraham for £71 million, although this seems doubtful considering that the Blues will be welcoming Christopher Nkunku this summer, allowing United to rush in for the Roma forward.
United aren’t the only team interested in signing Abraham, however. Villa and Everton have reportedly emerged as the frontrunners to recruit the 25-year-old forward, who might return to England this summer if Roma fails to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
In addition, Abraham himself may be open to returning home this summer and playing for a club where he would get the greatest treatment possible on and off the field after scoring only seven goals in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s side. This would make United the favourites to sign the striker.
Indeed, both Everton and Villa have arguments for why they should be allowed to sign Abraham, but United’s allure and tremendous growth under Ten Hag make the Red Devils as deadly an opponent as they have been in previous years during the transfer market.
Abraham fits many of Ten Hag’s criteria for a striker, and with the forward hinting at a return to England, United might go all out to recruit the Three Lions international and bring the striker to Manchester, much to the dismay of Everton and Villa. Although both Premier League clubs require a new starting striker and Abraham would have fit in well with the coaching philosophies of Sean Dyche and Unai Emery, United is the overwhelming favourite to get Abraham this summer.
