Manchester City have been monitoring Chelsea’s left-back Ben Chilwell for years

According to Fabrizio Romano, a transfer specialist, Manchester City has been monitoring Chelsea’s left back Ben Chilwell for years.

The £50 million (Sky Sports) player was said to be joining Pep Guardiola’s side on the last day of the transfer window because they needed to replace Joao Cancelo, who had been loaned out to Bayern Munich unexpectedly.

Others may be mystified by Man City’s apparent obsession with signing the “high level” Ben Chilwell, but according to Fabrizio Romano, this is nothing new.

While Nathan Ake has done an excellent job defensively for the Sky Blues, he lacks the offensive talent necessary to thrive at the position.

If what Fabrizio Romano says is true, then Manchester City may make a bid for Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell. He’s reportedly a candidate to play left-back, but he’s not the only one.

As for Thomas Tuchel’s assessment of Ben Chilwell as “extremely essential,” as reported by Chelsea Transfer Room, we may take Fabrizio Romano at his word.

“They have a shortlist of players in that position and will decide how to proceed together with Pep [Guardiola] in May or June”, the Italian journalist told Caught Offside.

However, despite his skill, the England international’s injury history would be a huge issue for City if they were to sign him. In the previous two seasons alone, he has missed a total of 53 games due to injuries.
