Liverpool may spend much on Josko Gvardiol or another defender this summer in place of Jude Bellingham
Christian Falk of Caught Offside reports that Liverpool may spend heavily on Josko Gvardiol this summer. The two Bundesliga players are at the top of Jurgen Klopp’s wishlist as he looks to make a game-changing addition to his team.
Jurgen Klopp would want to make a game-changing addition to Liverpool’s roster in the next offseason. The German manager turned around Liverpool’s fortunes by signing Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk early in his tenure at Anfield.
To assist boost the team’s performance, Klopp is looking to add a player like Jude Bellingham. After this season, the Borussia Dortmund midfielder will command a hefty transfer fee from any suitors.
After acquiring Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window, Klopp hinted that Liverpool may perhaps sit out until the summer. The Reds have been connected to several midfielders, but none of them have actually signed with the club. Christian Falk, a well-known German journalist, thinks they may make a major impact on one player this summer.
The future destination of the England international is up in the air because of Bellingham’s interest. Both Real Madrid and Manchester City want to sign him, but the latter has a far better chance. If a bidding war breaks out for his services, Liverpool may end up losing out to one of their rivals.
So, according to Falk, Josko Gvardiol might replace Bellingham as Liverpool’s top target. The 20-year-old World Cup sensation now plays for RB Leipzig and is highly sought after by clubs around Europe. Two of the top teams in England, Chelsea and Manchester City, are now competing.
Even though he has been linked to Man City, Gvardiol has come clean about his true allegiance being to Liverpool. Although Klopp’s interest in the player as a potential long-term replacement for Van Dijk means it’s unclear if he will pay attention to the remarks, it doesn’t change the fact that he will be looked at in that capacity.
The future of Joel Matip is also a cause for worry, and Joe Gomez hasn’t exactly inspired confidence. That means Klopp has the opportunity to create a splash similar to that of the summer signings of Van Dijk and Gvardiol at Anfield. It would be tough to persuade Leipzig to sell the 20-year-old World Cup sensation, but that is not necessary at this time.
