Liverpool is very interested in acquiring Nicolo Barella, a midfielder for Inter Milan

According to reports, Liverpool is very interested in acquiring Nicolo Barella, a midfielder for Inter Milan, this summer. Barella, who is 26 years old, has been an important player for Inter for quite some time. He came to them in 2019 from Cagliari Calcio on loan and stayed permanently the following year.

The Italian midfielder has played 181 times for the Nerazzurri, during which time he has scored 19 goals and assisted 43 others. According to Fichajes.net, the centre midfielder is Liverpool’s top priority this summer transfer window.

The Reds are hoping to make some changes this summer to improve upon their lacklustre 2022-23 season, particularly in the centre of the field. James Milner will be leaving on a free transfer, and Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may soon follow. On the other hand, players like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have been subpar.

There was a lot of speculation that the Reds might acquire Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund. But they backed out when they heard the asking price may be about £120 million (according to Football Insider). So now Barella is their number one priority.

It has been reported that the Italian might depart Inter Milan this summer as the club struggles financially. Barella, whose contract is up in 2026, will reportedly cost roughly €60 million to acquire. There is a lot of competition for the Italy international from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

On Monday, May 15th, Liverpool will travel to Leicester City to take on the Foxes in a Premier League matchup. The Foxes have battled all season long, and they now sit in the relegation zone with just one victory in their past thirteen games.

For Liverpool’s own playoff hopes, this match is crucial. They’re now fifth in the league, one point behind Manchester United with a game in hand.
