Liverpool is still trying to get Arnaut Danjuma from Villareal

Arnaut Danjuma was reported of interest to Liverpool last year, but he may end up replacing Cody Gakpo at PSV Eindhoven instead. According to 90Min, PSV has made an offer to buy Danjuma from Villarreal.

Premier League teams like Everton, Southampton, Aston Villa, and Bournemouth are lining up to sign Danjuma. Now, though, Danjuma wants to join PSV and play for Ruud van Nistelrooy in Eindhoven. According to reports, Van Nistelrooy thinks the Dutch international winger would be a great choice to take over for Cody Gakpo.

Before the month was out, Liverpool had already signed Gakpo, and Danjuma very nearly made the move to Anfield. The Reds were still in the market for an offensive player when they signed Luis Diaz in January of last year. Sadio Mane’s departure to Bayern Munich at the conclusion of the season meant that Liverpool had to find a new acquisition.

Many players, including Danjuma, were linked to Liverpool during the summer transfer window and in January. Following his impressive performance with Villarreal, Danjuma reported that Liverpool was monitoring him in preparation for the next summer transfer window.

In fact, in April, Goal claimed that Liverpool had targeted Danjuma as their preferred replacement for Sadio Mane. Danjuma hasn’t been able to find his form from the previous season as Liverpool opted to buy Mane instead. Villarreal is willing to let Danjuma depart, and he may return to the Netherlands rather than make his dream transfer to Anfield.

Gakpo deserved to go to Liverpool, and it would be quite a twist of destiny if Danjuma were to go this month to take his position.
