According to El Nacional of Catalonia, Jordi Alba has been told by Barcelona manager Xavi that the left-back is not part of the team’s future plans.
The 34-year-old Alba has been with the Spanish powerhouses since he transferred from Valencia in 2012. He has won every major honour there is to win, including five La Liga titles and the UEFA Champions League with the Blaugrana.
However, 19-year-old left-back Alajendro Balde has surpassed the veteran this season. This season, Alba has logged a total of 1721 minutes on the pitch in all competitions, while the teen has played for a total of 2823 minutes.
The Spain international reportedly has no problem serving as Balde’s backup. According to the aforementioned source, though, Xavi prefers Marcos Alonso over Alba.
According to the rumour, Barcelona has already resolved to trade Alba before the 2023–24 season even begins. The Camp Nou squad’s financial strains would be reduced if the full-back were released from his salary.
