Jermaine Jenas has been speaking to JOE about Liverpool’s midfield woes and whom the Reds should acquire this summer to address those difficulties.
The Reds’ midfield is now malfunctioning, and Jurgen Klopp has to conduct extensive surgery in that area. Jenas believes that Declan Rice is the key to fixing many of Liverpool’s issues.
The analyst claims that if he were tasked with finding a replacement for Fabinho at Liverpool, he would prioritize Rice as one of his top targets. Jenas strongly recommended that the Reds acquire the services of the English ace. The Reds would be wise to sign Rice, but it won’t be easy.
Jenas said, “Declan Rice would be near the top of the list of players I’d try to get to stay in that role. Right now, Liverpool doesn’t seem to have a clear idea of who will play the holding midfielder position. I don’t know why Fabinho isn’t getting that time. Maybe he thinks he’s gotten slower, or maybe he’s just not doing well.
If I’m being honest, I don’t think they’ll be able to buy Jude. From Liverpool’s point of view, I don’t think the math works out. They got that young boy (Stefan) Bajeti, who is a great ball player and has just joined. But that defence needs more safety right now. So, I would go after Declan.”
David Moyes has said that a British record sum may be required to acquire the midfielder, and he is also very sought after. If Liverpool were to pursue him, they would have to compete with Arsenal. Rice is said to be the club’s top transfer target for the next summer.
It’s worth keeping in mind, but don’t expect a smooth transaction.
