If Thiago Silva, a seasoned defender for Chelsea, wants to return to Brazil this summer, the club apparently won’t stand in his way
If Thiago Silva, a seasoned defender for Chelsea, wants to return to Brazil this summer, the club apparently won’t stand in his way. The Blues have another year on the 38-year-old’s deal, but rumours have circulated that he will be leaving for his previous team, Fluminese.
Chelsea hopes to keep Silva beyond this season because of his importance to the team since he joined for free from PSG in 2020. The Blues, though, would reportedly not stand in his way if he wished to go, as reported by The Telegraph.
It’s clear that the central defender cares deeply for Fluminese. When Silva’s career was threatened by TB in 2006, the Brazilian club offered him a chance with a loan transfer.
In light of this, it would be a fairytale if the player made a last appearance at the club before calling it quits.

The rumors about Silva’s departure from Chelsea have been circulating for some time now. The Brazil international has been more dissatisfied with the team over this turbulent season. After the Blues were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League, he even went so far as to criticize the decision-making of co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.
Chelsea are presently 11th in the Premier League with 42 points and 11 victories from 34 games, making it very unlikely that they will qualify for European football next season.

It’s possible that Thiago Silva won’t be the only player leaving Chelsea this summer. In order to comply with Financial Fair Play requirements, Chelsea may have to sell a number of its players.
The Blues lost £121 million in the 2020–21 season. They also paid an outrageous sum to replace their manager, Graham Potter and spent almost £600 million on transfers this season.
The Times reports that if this continues, first-team talents like Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher may have to be sold by the west London club. The club’s poor financial health may also prevent it from moving forward with plans to construct a new, £2 billion stadium.
