Gabby Agbonlahor said on TalkSPORT that Leicester City and England player James Maddison would have helped Tottenham to victory over AC Milan on Wednesday night. The Spurs are actively pursuing Maddison.

The 26-year-old Maddison has been directly involved in 14 goals in 20 appearances this season, reaffirming his status as one of the Premier League’s top offensive midfielders. Nevertheless, after the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, his contract with Leicester will have expired.

Tottenham played Italian champions Milan on Wednesday night, and the game ended in a scoreless draw. Spurs’ performance was so poor that they were eliminated from the Champions League in the first round of elimination. This is following a disappointing 1-0 defeat in the first match.

The Telegraph says that both Tottenham and Newcastle are interested in Maddison, but his price tag might exceed £60 million. According to Agbonlahor, Spurs would have defeated Milan if they had Maddison on the field.

“No no.10, they really lack a no.10. James Maddison. Put Maddison in that team and they would have won the game,” Agbonlahor said when discussing Tottenham’s lack of creativity against Milan in the Champions League clash.

How likely is it, however, that Maddison would even make Tottenham’s squad? Due to Antonio Conte’s insistence on using a 3-4-3 formation, the no. 10 position is unavailable to the team. Richarlison is unhappy with Conte after the club paid £60 million for him but he has yet to get significant playing time.

Spurs are now able to concentrate on the Premier League. With Conte’s departure seeming more inevitable, making the playoffs is the only way for the club to retain Harry Kane. The future does not seem bright for Tottenham.

In any case, Spurs have a few games coming up where they should rack up maximum points. Spurs supporters will be expecting three straight wins in upcoming matches against Nottingham Forest, Southampton, and Everton.
