The match saw Messi live up to his worth in his debut game for his new club, Inter Miami after having signed for them around a couple weeks ago. A nail biting 2-1 win over Cruz Azul saw Inter Miami reach the top their table in Group J. The game was an absolute treat to watch for the fans as Miami sealed a brilliant win following Messi’s writing his name on the scoresheet. Inter Miami had 52 percent of the ball possession as the game was a fairly evenly poised one for certain.

The first few minutes of the game saw both the teams seeking their chances to catch the opponent napping. The first big chance of the match came in at the 10th minute for Cruz as Rotondi dribbled past a couple of defenders and unleashed a fine curling shot which came off the woodwork. This was followed by another tensed few minutes of football as neither of the sides managed to keep possession of the ball for long. It was however Inter Miami who put a fine end to the first half by taking the lead at the 44th minute. Robert Taylor after having received the ball at the left flank did well to wiggle his way into the box and went for a fine low shot which hit the post and ended up into the back of the net.

The second half began and in came Messi at the 53rd minute, a moment which everyone was waiting for. Much to everyone’s surprise, Azul levelled the scores at the 65th minute. The ball fell kindly to Uriel Antuna inside the box who had lots of space to shoot. The winger unleashed a powerful shot to beat the keeper and make it 1-1. The final big moment of the game came in the form of Messi winning the game for Miami at the death. The no.10 stepped up to take a free kick from the edge of the area in the 4rh minute of stoppage time. A trademark curling shot saw the ball end up inside the goal after beating the wall and the goalkeeper with ease. Miami won 2-1 and reached the top of their table with three crucial points.

Both Azul and Miami shall next be playing Atlanta United in their group stage of the Leagues Cup.
