FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 – France vs Brazil – Match Report

France registered a massive win over Brazil in their second match of the FIFA women’s world cup at the Brisbane stadium. The Herve Renard coached side displayed quality performances on the pitch as they outplayed a heavy looking Brazil side against the odds. The game was a pretty evenly poised one with each of the two sides having their fair share of chances to

find the back of the net. It was however France who emerged victorious. The team is now placed at the top of its table with four points in its bag after two games. Brazil on the other hand failed to carry on the momentum they’d gained following a win over Panama in the opening match. The side is now second in its group’s table with 3 points into matches.

The first half began with each of the two sides steadily beginning to gain their momentum. The motto was to regularly try and seek an opportunity to attack the opponent’s net. Le Sommer lays the ball of to Dali before receiving the latter’s cross. Her header was creeping into the bottom corner but was denied by Letcia who clawed it away well. France eventually took the lead in the 17th minute, shortly after having their first shot on target. Karchaoui sent in a diagonal ball in the box. Diani cushioned it brilliantly for Le Sommer to smash the ball into the goal past Letcia. France did manage to create few more chances prior to the end of first half, but failed to convert any of them.

The second half saw some bit of resurgance early on by Brazil in terms of their attack. The side seemed to have gained some fresh vigour which begin to show in their body language. Their efforts did yield results as they eventually levelled the scores in the 58th minute. Kerolin’s shot from the edge of the box was initially saved and fell kindly into the path of Debinha who slotted it home calmly from close range.

Brazil did have another fairly good chance to score in the 74th minute when an unmarked Kerolin ghosted in to connect a shot following a free-kick, but failed to direct her effort on target. France did have the last laugh as they took the match winning lead in the 83rd minute. It was the skipper, Wendie Renard who scored with a thumping header after beating her marker to find Bacha’s corner kick. FT:- France 2-1 Brazil.

France shall next be facing Panama on Wednesday. Brazil meanwhile shall be taking on Jamaica in their final group stage match.
