Despite rumors that Leeds United are interested in hiring Arne Slot, the current coach of Feyenoord, the 44-year-old Dutchman is not likely to accept the position.
The Guardian reports that the manager of Rayo Vallecano, Andoni Iraola, has also turned down the job of managing Leeds to replace Jesse Marsch, and that Feyenoord’s manager, who has led the Rotterdam club to the top of the Eredivisie at the time of writing, has no plans to leave his position in Holland.
After losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest earlier this week and falling dangerously near to the relegation zone, Leeds fired manager Jesse Marsch and are running out of first-choice candidates to replace him. Carlos Corberan has also signed a new deal with West Bromwich Albion.
Even after Leeds tied Manchester United 2-2 last night, the search for a new manager will continue until Sunday’s rematch against the Red Devils, with Slot apparently no longer a possibility for the Yorkshire giants.
In fact, despite Leeds still considering some great coaches like Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou and Bodo/Kjetil Glimt’s Knutsen to replace Marsch, having three names reject the opportunity to join the Elland Road side might be a huge issue in the coming days.
Leeds are running out of time to defend their decision to fire Marsch, as fans will want a new manager as quickly as possible as good candidates fall off the list with each passing day.
Given that the American was given the full January window to bring in his own players and continue to construct his ideas around Leeds, the decision to fire Marsch may be seen as hasty. The Yorkshire club is in a bind, as three highly regarded management prospects have all declined to replace the fired Whites manager.
Just days before their next Premier League encounter, Leeds may be forced to choose a manager who isn’t a good fit for the club. This may perhaps result in relegation to the Championship, which seems implausible at this stage in the season.
