Crystal Palace tried to sign Real Valladolid player Ivan Fresneda, who is also wanted by Arsenal and Newcastle, but failed at the last minute
An effort to sign Ivan Fresneda from Real Valladolid by Crystal Palace, who were also interested in him along with Arsenal and Newcastle, was unsuccessful.
Well, the Spain U-19 national team member has received a lot of attention this month, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting that Arsenal are interested in signing him.
The Northern Echo reports that the two clubs have discussed a possible transfer for Fresneda, who is valued at £13 million. Crystal Palace and Bournemouth both made late bids to capture the Spanish right-back, which were somewhat bold considering the degree of interest in the player (even Borussia Dortmund is interested).
That’s what Matteo Moretto of the Spanish news source Revelo said. The 18-year-old prodigy has been phenomenal so far this season, starting 10 times for Real Valladolid in La Liga and twice in the Copa del Rey.
With Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne nearing the end of their careers, it’s clear that Patrick Vieira needs a new right-back at Selhurst Park.
There are lots of more realistic targets out there, but the south Londoners deserve kudos for making a bid for Fresneda despite the abundance of elite sides interested in the precocious adolescent.
Although Fresneda turned down Vieira’s offer, it seems that the Brazilian will still be bringing two new players to Selhurst Park later today.
Currently, a £10.6m deal has been negotiated to recruit Naouirou Ahamada from VfB Stuttgart, and a physical has been scheduled for Albert Sambi Lokonga in preparation for a loan transfer from Arsenal.
The additions of these two should give Vieira the midfield depth he so desperately needs, and although a new right-back would be good, the Eagles may be delighted with their deadline-day business.
