Craig Hope of the Daily Mail tweeted that Southampton and Forest lost out on a deal to capture Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow, who is expected to join Hull following the Magpies’ Carabao Cup match with the Tigers on Tuesday night.

Newcastle has only employed Darlow, who is 32 years old, once so far this season. The fact that it was his 100th game for the team is noteworthy. Back in the summer of 2014, he signed with the club, although he ended up spending the whole 2014–15 season on loan at Forest. Forest had expressed a desire to relocate.

After signing a contract for more than £30k per week and spending more than eight years with Newcastle, the player is finally leaving. But not until the Carabao Cup match between Newcastle and Southampton is over. His next stop is Hull City.

Hope has said that he has heard that Forest and the Saints are interested in him, maybe as a decoy for Dean Henderson and Gavin Bazunu. Darlow may get more playing time in the second half of the season with Hull, a team in the English Championship. Darlow is close to finalizing a loan.

Darlow really had to get out of Newcastle this month. After a disappointing loan stint at Manchester United, Martin Dubravka has returned to his former club, Newcastle. He has not been demoted and seems content with his position as the Toon’s backup.

Though Loris Karius has re-signed with Newcastle United, Premier League goalkeeper of the year Nick Pope has signed a new contract with the Chicago Fire. Under Eddie Howe as manager at The Toon, Darlow has plummeted to fourth choice.

Darlow will thus depart the Toon on loan following tonight’s Cup match. Hull, now in a respectable 15th spot, has been trying to bolster its roster in order to avoid relegation. Only eight points separate them from being in the bottom twenty-first.

If Darlow had decided to return to Nottingham Forest, he would have joined Chris Wood and Jonjo Shelvey in leaving Newcastle for Nottingham Forest. Shelvey’s homecoming is anticipated to be announced sooner rather than later.
