Concerns have been raised concerning former Premier League winger Francisco Trincao, who was on loan to Sporting Lisbon from Wolves but has since failed to regain his form, according to an article in O Jogo.
The Portugal international, who had a rough go of it at Camp Nou and Molineux, moved back to his native Iberia this summer to try to recapture the form that prompted Barcelona to pay £26 million to get him.
Since returning to Sporting for a second stint, Trincao has scored only four goals in 19 league appearances. Additionally, he has started the previous two Premier League games from the substitutes’ bench.
And Ricardo Gomes, a former sports scientist at Sporting, thinks that Trincao’s difficulties stem, at least in part, from the very high standards he set for himself during his time at Braga before joining Barcelona.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Trincao’s contract has a £9 million buyout provision. The Catalan club is poised to lose a ton of money again on a player who didn’t justify his exorbitant contract.
In his defence, Trincao had a strong debut upon his summer return to Portugal. In December, he was named the Young Player of the Month in the Portuguese Premier League, and as the old adage goes, that kind of success lasts forever.
As a result, Sporting will be praying that Trincao’s present condition is just temporary.
