Bayern Munich lock horns with Tottenham Hotspurs for the signing of Yann Sommer
According to reports, Tottenham is interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer, while Bayern Munich is hoping to get him this week.
Bundesliga opponents will meet with the Bavarians this week to discuss the Swiss international, with Sommer now the obvious favourite to replace Manuel Neuer for the rest of the season, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
Sommer, who has been called “world-class” by Gladbach manager Daniel Farke, is widely considered to be one of the top goalkeepers in Europe and is deserving of his opportunity to play for Bayern, one of Europe’s most prestigious teams.
While it looks like Bayern will soon win the battle for the goalie Sommer, they aren’t the only team interested in signing him. Journalist Dean Jones has reported that Tottenham is also interested in the Swiss international goalkeeper.
Despite a series of dismal showings since the Premier League’s return, Tottenham is in no haste to replace Hugo Lloris. And with Bayern needing a clear replacement for the injured Neuer, Sommer would be an ideal addition for the Bavarian team come January.
A transfer to a top club in Europe has long been predicted for Sommer. And now that Bayern has opened contract negotiations with Gladbach to recruit the Swiss veteran, the goalie seems ready to join a club where his abilities can be shown to the globe.
As for Tottenham, with Lloris expected to be replaced this year after he withdrew from international duty for France, the club in north London may move their goalkeeping transfer attention to a younger and more suited candidate than Sommer.
