Atletico Madrid – Top 3 signings of 2023/24 season

A Spanish professional football club that competes in the La Liga, the top flight of Spanish football has worked hard in the transfer window this season to build a strong lineup. The Diego Simeone-managed side had an excellent last season when they finished third in the league.

This time they would be looking to cling to the cup thus working hard on the summer transfers. In terms of titles won, Atletico Madrid is the third most successful Spanish club, just behind Real Madrid and Barcelona. Atletico Madrid last won the title back in the 2020/21 season. They have won the UEFA Europa League in 2010, 2012, and 2018, and the UEFA Super Cup in 2010, 2012, and 2018 as well as the 1974 Intercontinental Cup.

1) Antoine Griezmann – Antoine Griezmann made a comeback in his former side Atletico Madrid after playing two seasons for Barcelona. The French striker who joined Atletico back in 2014 for €30 million left the side to join Barcelona in 2019 for €120 million. Griezmann signed a five-year contract with Barcelona but returned to Atletico Madrid in 2021 as a loan player and got his permanent place last season again with a conditional permanent transfer clause worth €40 million. He has made 45 appearances and has also scored in 18 occasions after becoming permanent. With France he has 123 appearances scoring 44 international goals.

2) Santiago Mouriño – Uruguayan central defender Mouriño signed for the Spanish side this July in a five-year contract but was loaned to Segunda División side Real Zaragoza for the season. The 21-year-old has just started his career and has made 29 appearances for his previous side Racing Club de Montevideo. He will be looking to leave some mark in his present team this season.

3) César Azpilicueta – Spanish professional defender Azpilicueta has made his move from Chelsea after 11 seasons to the La Liga side Atletico Madrid. He has joined Atletico Madrid on a one-year contract. The 34-year-old has an astonishing career with Chelsea making 349 appearances for them and scoring 10 goals. He also represents his national side and has made 44 appearances scoring one international goal which came against Croatia in the UEFA Euro 2020
