Antonio Conte’s future at Spurs is under severe examination and possible replacement has been shortlisted

In the wake of two Cup eliminations in as many days, Antonio Conte’s future at Spurs is under severe examination, and Sky Sports reports that the club has added Fulham manager Marco Silva to its shortlist to replace the Italian.

On Wednesday night, after tying AC Milan, Tottenham was eliminated from the Champions League. Having been weakened by Conte’s substitutions, Spurs lost 1-0 to Sheffield United in the FA Cup the week before.

Spurs supporters’ anger stems from the team’s failure to play attractive football. The substitution of Davinson Sanchez for Deki Kulusevski on Wednesday after Cristian Romero was sent off exemplified Conte’s pragmatic approach.

The practical approach is boring to watch and clearly isn’t working right now. Spurs are still in fourth position, but Liverpool is closing up fast. Then maybe Spurs should do something and fire Conte.

It’s clear that Spurs are thinking about going in that direction. According to Sky, Spurs are considering Silva to replace the Italian manager. Silva has done a fantastic job as Fulham’s manager.

As Fulham’s manager, Silva has been outstanding. Fulham is aiming for an unexpected qualification to Europe after getting the Cottagers promoted with their entertaining style of play. They’re in the cellar at eighth, but they’ve played more games than anybody else.

And Brighton, in ninth position, is just a point behind, with three games in hand. Brentford is now in ninth place with two games in hand and is just two points behind eighth-placed Chelsea. European glory may be out of the question, but Silva has Fulham looking good.

Before the summer, a transfer to Spurs is quite improbable. Nevertheless, Richarlison and Eric Dier, who has already worked under Silva at Watford and Everton and would likely be interested in joining Spurs if the club made an offer of £87k per week, would be enticed by the prospect of joining the club.
