Based on a report by Alasdair Gold of Football.London, Antonio Conte stymied a loan move for Oliver Skipp, who wanted out of Tottenham Hotspur in the closing days of the winter transfer window. The choice was made because of the youngster’s high worth to the team, according to the ex-Inter Milan manager.

The English midfielder wants out since he has only played three Premier League games this season due to an injury at the beginning of the 2022/2023 campaign.

While Alasdair Gold of Football.London stated that Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp was “open” to leaving on loan, but Antonio Conte reportedly halted such plans. Several English teams expressed interest in signing the £49,000-a-week star in the month of January, including Fulham, Crystal Palace, and AFC Bournemouth.

However, for two main reasons, Conte opted against allowing Skipp to go on loan. To begin with, the former Juventus manager had high praise for the outstanding defensive midfielder. The Spurs manager was also hesitant to let him go since he already has a depleted centre midfield.

So, if Oliver Skipp impresses in training and then gets started for Tottenham, he might make Antonio Conte’s decision to send him on loan seem like a joke. While Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg has been a solid contributor all season, he is still not indispensable since he is unable to consistently perform at a world-class level. Positive signals have been shown by Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma, although neither player has cemented a starting position.
