Another team may try to take Weston McKennie away from Leeds United, despite the club’s best efforts to retain the on-loan Juventus midfielder.
Transfer expert Dean Jones has been talking to Give Me Sport regarding McKennie’s future, and he says that. If things don’t work out between Leeds and McKennie this summer, Jones says that other teams are still interested in signing him.
Keeping in the Premier League is essential to Leeds’ chances of retaining McKennie, according to Jones. Signing McKennie was a big deal for Leeds.
The midfielder for Juventus is well-known throughout Europe, making it a major coup for Leeds United to sign him despite the club’s precarious position in the relegation race. Even so, McKennie was signed under his fellow American Jesse Marsch, which may have attracted McKennie to Elland Road.
The news that Marsch had been fired as Leeds manager shook McKennie only a week later. The new coach at Leeds, Javi Gracia, will undoubtedly depend on McKennie, but the move still comes as a shock to the midfielder.
“I mean, there’s still other interest out there for him, but if Leeds turn the corner and Gracia puts him at the centre of the project, I think it could actually still turn out well,” said Jones.
There’s a chance that other teams may try to take advantage of the chaos by dangling the possibility of a transfer. Reports from Corriere dello Sport indicated that Arsenal were attempting to sabotage McKennie’s transfer to Leeds in the days leading up to that last-minute agreement.
While Arsenal opted to buy Jorginho instead, they may still be interested in McKennie.
