“Another excuse” – Erik ten Hag blamed for Newcastle United’s record-breaking win over Manchester United

Manchester United fell to seventh place in the Premier League rankings.

Newcastle United and Manchester United played a critical encounter at St. James’ Park. Despite injuries, Eddie Howe’s squad won their third straight game against the Red Devils in over 101 years. According to fans, the ‘damage’ is blamed on Erik ten Hag.

Newcastle controlled this recent encounter, winning 1-0, with Anthony Gordon scoring the game-winning goal in the 55th minute. In the 39th minute, Kieren Trippier struck the crossbar with a free kick. Newcastle had about 60% possession and approximately 1.33 predicted goals at halftime, while United had only 0.09.

Gordon’s shot into an empty net 10 minutes into the second half, courtesy of a beautiful Trippier cross, gave Newcastle their lone goal of the game. While Antony‘s attempt in the 88th minute almost tied the game for Manchester United, it was deflected off Harry Maguire, who was offside. The final result was 1-0 in favor of the Magpies. This, however, did not sit well with the Red Devils’ supporters.

Erik ten Hag has had a difficult time at Manchester United thus far. Despite winning the EFL Carabao Cup in his first season, he has failed to get United off to a good start. The Newcastle game was a significant wake-up call, as they had previously only managed a 1-0 victory. And fans feel this is not how the Red Devils do things!

Some supporters have even gone so far as to declare that ‘Man U play the worst football under ETH’. Fans argue that since the Dutchman became over, there has been no change in the club’s identity. Many people want him to leave the club… If not, they will expect outcomes.

Meanwhile, Manchester United fell to seventh place in the league with this defeat and might fall much lower if Brighton beats Chelsea on Sunday. Newcastle, on the other side, rose to fifth place, just two points behind Aston Villa. If Tottenham Hotspurs defeat Manchester City, Newcastle will drop to sixth place.
