“Aston Villa cooked them good” – Unai Emery’s Aston Villa dealt a blow to Manchester City with a 1-0 victory
Aston Villa beat Man City 1-0 at Villa Park.
Aston Villa defeated reigning champions Manchester City 1-0 in one of the most one-sided games of the season. In a game in which City had just two shots in the entire 90 minutes, Leon Bailey’s score in the 74th minute gave Villa three crucial points.
Pep Guardiola‘s club was third, six points behind Arsenal, while Villa was just one point back. Even though City were expected to win, Rodri’s ban created a difficulty. Villa had 22 shots in the game, 7 of which were on target, showing City’s difficulty without Rodri. City had 0.00 xG after the 11th minute, managing just 0.86 with two shots, according to the xG Philosophy on Twitter.
Despite thoroughly dominating the game, Unai Emery’s side struggled to reach the back of the net. After an ineffective touch by Youri Tielemans, Bailey got the ball on the right wing and scored in the 74th minute.
The winger dribbled into the center, past Josko Gvardiol, and fired from outside the area. Unfortunately, the ball deflected off Ruben Dias and went over Ederson, who was already off his line.

Fans mock Manchester City’s loss against Aston Villa
Many people predicted that despite the absence of Rodri, City would win the game. But everyone was proven incorrect as Unai Emery’s men easily surpassed City. Many derided City for failing to win a game in four matches, and Guardiola became a target as a result of City’s dismal performance.
Aston Villa will now host league leaders Arsenal on December 9th, who are two points ahead of second-placed Liverpool. In the meantime, City will travel to Kenilworth Road to play Luton Town. In other news, Manchester United defeated Chelsea 2-1 to go into sixth place, only three points behind City. Newcastle United will surpass Manchester United if they defeat Tottenham Hotspurs on Thursday night.
