After his contract with Manchester City ends this summer, star player Ilkay Gundogan allegedly wants to go to Barcelona. After declining to extend his contract with the Sky Blues, the German international will be a free agent as of July 1.
El Nacional, a Spanish news site, reports that Barcelona is interested in signing Gundogan to replace Sergio Busquets.
Busquets’ departure from Camp Nou was confirmed earlier this week, leaving the Catalans with a massive hole in their midfield. Busquets has been with the club for 14 years.
Gundogan is said to be a fantastic match because of his playing style. Barcelona is willing to give him a lengthier contract than City is. The story goes on to say that he would be offered a two-year contract with an additional year of extension at a salary of €12 million.
Given the club’s current financial situation, however, the La Liga heavyweights will need to decrease their pay bill before they can afford to bring back Messi and the rest of the rumoured returning players.
The Argentine is expected to depart PSG when his contract ends this summer. The Blaugrana are interested in signing him back to Camp Nou.
